Triumph unites Civil Protection in Marengo

“The world of Civil Protection – was Dante Paolo Ferraris’ statement (disaster manager – Piedmont Region) unites 1200 operators enrolled in 132 volunteer organizations (including 73 local and inter-municipal groups) distributed over the province of Alessandria: the opening to volunteers under 16 is functional to turnover. The global defense on the regional space is guaranteed by the Piedmont forest fire corps in the mountains and by the local group downstream”.

“The order sewn to volunteering alias the basis for state organization triggered at every level (from the Ministry to the smallest municipality) to protect the environment and life from natural disasters – was the testimony of Marco Bologna, President of the Red Cross and coordinator of Civil Protection in the province of Alessandria – it was crucial to guide effective action beyond regional and then national borders.

It was 1994 and the flooding of Tanaro claimed 70 victims and over two thousand displaced persons. I, the mayor of Piovera, had denounced to the housewives gathered at Sunday Mass at 8 o’clock the urgent need to gather men, tractors and trailers to strengthen the bank of the river: the inhabited area was, thus, defended by the flood. This synergy of countrymen was the launch pad aimed at the wider competition: the radio equipment provided by the Provincial Administration started the rapid exchange of news to manage the emergency at the inter-municipal level. In 2000 the river Po threatened Casale Monferrato: the Civil Protection acted and the flooding caused no victims”.

“Nowadays – was Andrea Morchio’s assertion (coordinator of Civil Protection on the provincial area of Alessandria) – the mobile column guarantees cross-border coverage but the local group installed on the offended territory is primary to activate the rescue”.

“The Provincial Administration – was Enrico Bussalino’s contribution (President of the Province of Alessandria) – is also the home of the Municipalities and promotes voluntary associations together with different innovations to ensure the future of Civil Protection”.

“The effective and crucial chain of command – was Efrem Bovo’s conclusion (Marengo temporary manager) – for Napoleon’s victory at the Battle of Marengo (14 June 1800) and also for the relief promoted by the Civil Protection structure suggests the operational strategy to manage the challenges and collect the triumph”.

“1.35 million euros to provide clothing, equipment and, thus, allow thousands of men and women to act better on our territory: the resource – was reported by Councillor Marco Gabusi (Piedmont Region) to the audience gathered at the Marengo auditorium – is registered on the multi-year planning and intended for local groups of Civil Protection”.
